Patek Philippe made very few stainless steel Calatravas over the years, and these steel watches are now quite collectable. One of these is surely the present lot, a gorgeous reference 3509. This simple and elegant dress watch by Patek Philippe has a high level of sophistication, thanks to the straight lugs, the perfectly circular case of 33 mm with the wide-set smooth bezel that gives the watch a larger presence on the wrist and the screw down back. The dial has perfect proportions and clear legibility, with the satin finishing and the applied white-gold Arabic numbers. The secret code represented by the letters AARO on the original certificate of origin by Patek Philippe allows us to understand that this very watch has been sold in November 1967, where the AA stands for 11, so November while the RO are the digits of the year, in this case 1967.
