During the sixties, the Submariner was so popular amongst everyone that Rolex adjusted the model based on the demands for everyday use. Yet, given its innate ability to combine sportiness and elegance, the demand for a more 'precious' version grew ever greater. Thus, at the end of 1960, Rolex introduced the reference 1680, the first Submariner to be serially produced in gold, for clients seeking a touch of luxury with professional capabilities. The present example is a great specimen in yellow gold preserved in incredible conditions. The dial is simply exceptional, the result of one of the most fascinating aging processes we have had the opportunity to witness. An incredibly homogenous tropicalization has transformed the original blue color of the dial into a purple one with an ability to attract the eye with few equals. The present watch is among the most significant yellow-gold Submariners to surface the market in recent year and  without a shadow of a doubt a unique object in its own way.
