The modern model “Pagoda” made for ladies with reference 4900 and for man with the 5500 takes inspiration from an historically important watch made by Patek Philippe in the 50s: the Tour Eiffel reference 2441. The lot here offered is a very beautiful specimen of 5500: this model was created in 1997 for the inauguration of the new Patek’s factory in Geneva in limited series and were produced in 1100 examples in yellow gold, 500 examples in pink gold. The platinum and, such as the present lot, white-gold versions are the rarest with respectively only 150 and 250 examples produced. The two-body case is in pristine and attractive conditions with concave lugs, curved bend and sapphire crystal and case back engraved “Commemoration 1997 – Pagoda”. The watch is almost mint and so is the matte rose dial with applied white-gold Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds dial and white-gold feuille hands. Powered by the caliber 215, stamped with the seal of Geneva quality mark, this watch is sold with its original Bulletin de Marche and accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in white gold in 1997 and its subsequent sale on 4 August 1997.
