The successful collaboration between Rolex and COMEX (Compagnie Maritime d’Expertise) started in the early 1970s when all divers were progressively equipped with watches especially made for COMEX: the present reference 5514 was one of those specimens specifically developed for the French company. Its stainless steel case is notably well preserved with very deep engraved with the COMEX issue number 791 and on the self-band the special gas escape valve designed to release built-up pressure from the case during a diver’s resurfacing and decompression. The black dial has applied white-gold luminous round, triangular and baton indexes and the iconic COMEX signature logo.
