Regarding the Day-Date model, an important innovation coincides with the year 1977: a sapphire crystal and a new 3055 movement with a quick snap of the date display accompany the introduction of the new 5-digit references. Of course, as for the previous specimens, the last number indicates the material of the case, following a precise criterion that associates a number with each metal. The example here offered an extremely well preserved and really sought after 18038. Its yellow-gold case fitted with a fluted bezel is in astonishing conditions with very sharp edges, deep hallmarks and the original Rolex sicker on the back with. It also features a glossy black lacquered dial in mint condition, elegant, baguette-cut diamond indexes and both the “Rolex” and “Day-Date” inscriptions on the dial are engraved onto raised, applied gold plaques. Previous and in outstanding conditions, the present specimen is an elegant collector’s watch suitable for casual or formal wear.
