Michael Schumacher was ambassador for Omega for a long time before hopping over to Audemars Piguet. However, when he won the world title in F1 racing for the 6th time (2003), Omega decided to introduce a Speedmaster Legend model to commemorate this accomplishment. Launched in a limited edition of 6,000 numbered examples, the present watch is number 5250 and pays tribute to the legendary Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher. This production commemorates, as said, his sixth title won on October 12, 2003 at the Japanese Grand Prix on the Suzuka Circuit following titles won by him in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2002. On that day in 2003, the renowned race car driver became the most awarded Formula 1 driver in history. The Legend collection was available with three different dials (red, black and white). This watch is the white dial version and arguably the most desirable out of the 3 dial colours which comes in excellent conditions. One thing that is completely different compared to the rest is the movement. The Speedmaster Legend ref. 3559.32.00 features the Omega caliber 3301 automatic movement. It is based on an F. Piguet (caliber 1285) chronograph movement, with a column wheel mechanism for the chronograph function. Besides being a column wheel movement, Omega also had it chronometer certified. The present watch looks back to the beginning of the Speedmaster in the 1950s when it was originally designed for timing sports and races rather than efforts in space exploration. Indeed, the Speedmaster has a long association with motor sports that is often forgotten in light of its conquest of space. With a layout that really recalls the Daytona Paul Newman, this lot is also offered with full set.
