In 2012, Panerai introduced the Radiomir 3-Day Oro Bianco as a limited edition of 501 pieces fitted with an attractive vintage inspired dial. Historically, one of the main characteristics of the Radiomir is its dial, of which several versions exist. The first to appear, as early as 1936, was the so-called “California” dial, with its distinctive alternation of Roman and Arabic numerals, bar markers and a railway track minute circle. But given the need to increase its visibility so that the commandos could use the watch in the most complete darkness, Panerai made the dial more luminous. The limited edition here offered pays homage to this layout and reclaim this type of dial featuring both Roman and Arabic numerals. Gold is a very dense metal, soft, highly ductile and malleable. The special alloys used by Officine Panerai are characterized by their great resistance and natural colour. The white-gold alloy contains 15% Palladium (Pd) to give the desired white colour. To preserve the tonal characteristics typical of this type of gold, it is not rhodium plated. This is exactly the material used to produce the case of the present lot, still retained in great conditions. Number 268 of 501, and with a sapphire back that allows the view of the manual caliber P.3000, the watch is offered with a complete full set.
