Introduced in 1934, Patek Philippe’s reference 130 was the manufacture’s first serially produced two-register chronograph and quickly became the template by which elegance in complication would be judged. Cased here in warm 18k yellow gold and measuring a refined 33 mm, the watch embodies proportions that feel as relevant today as they did eight decades ago. The stepped case, manufactured by the renowned casemaker Emile Vichet, identified by the discreet key 9 stamp, is a study in nuance: slim bezel, sculpted lugs, and harmonious curvature.
The dial of the present example is particularly compelling. Its silvered surface has aged to a soft, creamy tone, providing the perfect canvas for the applied gold Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 and faceted baton markers. The outer tachymeter scale, calibrated to 1000, frames the dial with technical precision, while the two subsidiary registers, symmetrically placed at 3 and 9 o’clock, offer a beautifully balanced composition.
Moreover, the watch is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming its production in 1943 and its sale on June 28th of that same year. Such documentation anchors the piece firmly in time, connecting it to a world in turmoil, yet to a maison steadfast in its pursuit of perfection.
