When the quartz revolution began to shake the foundations of Swiss watchmaking, Patek Philippe responded with intelligence and conviction. The reference 3597/1 perfectly embodies this pivotal moment.
Powered by the Beta-21 movement, developed by the Centre Electronique Horloger (CEH), it represented the cutting edge of late-1960s horology, offering a precision of roughly five seconds per month. Patek Philippe, alongside a select circle of elite manufactures, embraced this breakthrough while maintaining its uncompromising standards.
Presented at Basel in 1969, the 3597/1 became the maison’s first quartz wristwatch. At 43 mm, it was also its largest at the time, its bold cushion-shaped case reflecting the modernist spirit of the era.
Crafted in white gold and fitted with the exceptionally rare removable bracelet, the present example stands among only a handful known in this configuration. The silvered dial remains refined and balanced, with applied markers and luminous hands ensuring clarity and elegance.
Preserved in excellent condition, the reference 3597/1 occupies a singular place in Patek Philippe’s history—more than its first quartz watch, it is a testament to vision, innovation, and resilience.
