Launched at the end of the 1950s, reference 3266 embodies a fascinating chapter in Patek Philippe’s approach to ladies’ watches. First appearing around 1959 and remaining in production until the early 1970s, it served as a creative canvas rather than a single, rigid model. The reference 3266 was offered in yellow, pink and white gold, as well as in platinum, and could be fitted with an array of bracelets, bezels and dial configurations. The case is seamlessly integrated into wide gold bracelets, sometimes concealed, sometimes asymmetrical, occasionally transformed into bold sculptural forms. This freedom of design reflects the spirit of the period. During the early 1960s, Patek Philippe’s creative direction was influenced by Gilbert Albert, whose avant-garde sensibility can be felt in several jewellery pieces associated with this reference. The reference 3266 thus occupies a space between horology and high jewellery, a miniature timekeeper elevated to an object of design. Technically understated yet aesthetically ambitious, these watches were cased by the renowned Geneva master case-maker F. Baumgartner (key number 2), ensuring the highest standards of execution beneath their artistic exteriors. The present example, with its finely woven gold bracelet integrating a discreet round dial, perfectly illustrates the concept. Rather than placing the watch atop the wrist, it becomes the bracelet itself, fluid, textural and unmistakably of its era.
