The Patek Philippe reference 600, introduced in 1933, embodies the modern dress pocket watch at its most refined. Produced in limited numbers across all four noble metals and long prized for its understated elegance. The present example, however, belongs to an extraordinary royal commission. In 1956, to mark the accession of King Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Patek Philippe produced a small series of approximately 200 pocket watches as diplomatic gifts for the Saudi royal household. This is the rare reference 600/1, distinguished by its enamel dial. Of exceptional warmth, the ivory-toned surface is set with ruby hour markers and centered with a finely executed Grand Feu enamel portrait of the King. Such watches seldom appear on the market, many remaining within private collections. More than a reference 600, this is a royal commission, a diplomatic object, and a testament to Patek Philippe’s ability to elevate a time-only watch into an emblem of state and legacy.
