An exceptionally rare and highly distinctive yellow gold wristwatch, the present Cartier Tank “Lugless” was produced in London and sold through the boutique overseen by Jean-Jacques Cartier. Distinguished by its unconventional architecture, the model departs from the classic Tank design through the near complete absence of lugs, resulting in a streamlined, minimal silhouette that emphasizes the purity of the rectangular case. Produced during the highly creative London period of the 1960s, the watch embodies the experimental spirit encouraged by Jean-Jacques Cartier, when the London workshop developed some of the Maison’s most original interpretations of established forms. The case bears London hallmarks, including the date letter “i”, corresponding to production circa 1964, and confirming its manufacture within this celebrated era. The dial displays an attractive, evenly aged patina with a warm cream to ivory tone, enhancing the watch’s vintage character. Black Roman numerals are printed with elegant proportions, while slender blued steel hands provide a refined contrast. Notably, the absence of a chemin de fer minute track creates a cleaner and more expansive dial layout, further reinforcing the minimalist aesthetic that defines this rare “Lugless” configuration.
