The present watch is a remarkable expression of Piaget’s creative and audacious jewellery watchmaking of the 1970s, a period in which the Maison became renowned for combining its expertise in ultra-thin watchmaking with richly sculptural designs and precious hardstones. Piaget’s pioneering calibre 9P, introduced in 1957 and measuring only 2 mm in thickness, provided the technical foundation for creating elegant and highly elaborate jewellery watches while maintaining remarkably slim proportions. The present example features a substantial 18k yellow gold case measuring 35.5 by 36 mm, fitted with a lustrous tiger’s-eye dial and complemented by a striking integrated Piaget bracelet in yellow gold and tiger’s eye. The warm brown and golden tones of the stone harmoniously echo the yellow gold, while spherical tiger’s-eye cabochons and finely articulated, chain-like gold links lend the bracelet an unmistakably sculptural character.
