The present Blancpain is part of the celebrated “Six Masterpieces”, a series of exceptional complications developed during the renaissance of the Maison under Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet in the 1980s. Conceived to demonstrate that traditional mechanical watchmaking could still achieve the highest levels of technical sophistication, the series comprised six landmark complications, including the minute repeater. The present reference 0033 is a particularly elegant expression of this philosophy. Measuring just 34 mm in diameter, its slender case and restrained dial conceal the remarkable complexity of its minute-repeating mechanism. Activated by a discreet slide on the case, the repeater chimes the hours, quarters and minutes, transforming an understated dress watch into a highly sophisticated piece of horological engineering. Notably, the present watch bears case number 2, suggesting that it belongs among the earliest examples of the reference. The present watch is further distinguished by its provenance from the collection of Johnny Dorelli, the celebrated Italian singer, actor and television personality.
