The Tonneau was part of the Cartier Paris Private Collection (CPCP), a line dedicated to the faithful reinterpretation of the Maison’s historic models and initially reserved for limited distribution. This reissue retains the original aesthetic elements, including clean lines, a guilloché or sunburst dial, painted Roman numerals and sword-shaped hands, while combining them with a contemporary design, featuring a fully diamond-set bezel and crown and a movement manufactured under the Cartier name. The reference 2712 corresponds to the diamond-set ladies’ version of this reissue, produced in the mid-2000s. Part of a deliberately limited series within the Private Collection, it reflects Cartier’s desire, in the context of its centenary celebrations, to revive one of the oldest and most iconic forms in the Maison’s watchmaking heritage.
