Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Piaget became synonymous with an exceptionally creative approach to jewellery watches, transforming the timepiece into a precious object of design. The maison’s mastery of ultra-thin movements allowed its designers to devote particular attention to the case and bracelet, resulting in some of the most exuberant and unconventional creations of the period. The present watch is a spectacular example of this philosophy. Crafted in yellow gold, it features a delicate oval case with a vibrant coral dial, surrounded by a richly textured gold frame. The watch is integrated into an extraordinary openwork gold bracelet, whose intricate, almost lace-like construction is generously decorated with numerous coral beads of varying sizes. The vivid red-orange tones of the coral contrast beautifully with the warm gold, giving the creation an unmistakable presence. The combination of the sculptural bracelet, natural coral and refined oval watch head perfectly captures the spirit of 1970s jewellery design, when Piaget pushed the boundaries between watchmaking and high jewellery. Far removed from conventional wristwatches, creations such as the present example were conceived as jewels first and timepieces second, embodying the maison’s celebrated creativity and savoir-faire.
