Introduced in the late 1980s, the Ulysse Nardin San Marco Minute Repeater is among the manufacture's most fascinating creations, combining the highly sophisticated minute repeater complication with a traditional jacquemart automaton. Inspired by the mechanical figures that adorned medieval clock towers, the automaton animates as the repeater is activated, striking the bell in unison with the chimes. The figure reproduces one of the mythical jacquemarts created by Paolo Savin in the 15th century for the Campanile of St. Mark's Square in Venice, from which the collection takes its name. The present reference 701-22, crafted in white gold, features an attractive royal blue champlevé enamel dial with applied Roman and baton indexes and is further enhanced by its complete set comprising the original box, warranty, service papers and tag, making it an exceptionally rare and desirable example of Ulysse Nardin's most poetic haute horlogerie creations.
