Introduced in 1989 to commemorate Patek Philippe’s 150th anniversary, the Ref. 3974 is regarded as one of the most important and technically sophisticated complicated wristwatches produced by the Manufacture. Combining a perpetual calendar with a minute repeater in an exceptionally elegant and slim automatic wristwatch, it represents one of Patek Philippe’s most celebrated complicated wristwatches. The watch is powered by the exceptional Calibre R 27 Q, an ultra-thin automatic movement incorporating a 22K gold micro-rotor. Its production was remarkably limited, spanning approximately 13 years, approximately 115 examples are believed to have been made in yellow gold. The earliest cases were made by the celebrated Geneva casemaker Jean-Pierre Hagmann, whose distinctive JPH hallmark is found on the case of the present watch. Production was subsequently entrusted to Ateliers Réunis. The Ref. 3974 remains a landmark in Patek Philippe’s history, combining two of the Manufacture’s most prestigious complications within an exceptionally refined automatic wristwatch. The present example, featuring an early Hagmann case with JPH hallmark and accompanied by its full set, is a rare and historically significant example of the Ref. 3974, representing an exceptional opportunity for the discerning Patek Philippe collector.
