Dating to the 1950s, this distinctive wristwatch by Jaeger-LeCoultre exemplifies the Manufacture’s refined approach to post-war design, combining compact proportions, an integrated bracelet and an unconventional case construction. Conceived as a unified object, the square case flows seamlessly into the surrounding 18K yellow gold bracelet. Produced for the French market, the watch is fitted with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s calibre 496, a manual-winding movement dating from the same period. The winding crown is discreetly positioned on the reverse beneath the screw-down caseback, preserving the clean lines of the case. The patinated dial, with baton hour markers and painted Arabic numerals, further enhances its period character. With its unusual construction, harmonious proportions and jewellery-like presence, the present example reflects Jaeger-LeCoultre’s creative approach to wristwatch design in the post-war era.
