Among Patek Philippe’s most expressive shaped watches, reference 2442 is renowned for its distinctive curved silhouette, earning the nickname “Marilyn Monroe”. Introduced in the late 1940s, it reflects a period of creativity in watch design, when Patek Philippe experimented with forms beyond the traditional round case. Its gently flared rectangular case creates a fluid profile, presented here in pink gold, a metal produced in significantly smaller quantities than yellow gold. The harmonious dial features applied Arabic numerals, faceted markers, slender hands and a subsidiary seconds display. Powering the watch is the manually wound rectangular caliber 9’90, one of the manufacture’s most respected movements of the era. Produced in a limited series of approximately 200 examples, the reference remains exceptionally rare, with pink gold specimens representing a particularly desirable subset. Further enhancing its appeal, this watch is fitted with a mesh bracelet that integrates seamlessly with the case and reinforces its elegant, jewelry-like character. Preserved in remarkable condition for its age, it is accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming its production and sale in 1953.
