Presented here is an exceptionally early example of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 6239, manufactured circa 1963 during the inaugural year of production of what would become the world's most celebrated chronograph. Bearing the serial number 923'362, this watch belongs to the very first known production batch of the Daytona. For comparison, the earliest example currently documented carries a serial in the 9229xx range, placing the present watch among the earliest survivors of the reference. This timepiece retains the defining characteristics exclusive to the first generation of Daytona production. Its steel bezel features the coveted 300 unit tachymeter scale, while the dial predates the introduction of the "Daytona" designation, displaying the clean, balanced layout of the earliest Cosmograph models. The subsidiary registers have developed an attractive tropical patina, with their original coloration naturally fading towards warm brown tones, adding further character and individuality to the dial. Hidden beneath the lower edge of the bezel is the second "Swiss" signature at 6 o'clock, a fascinating manufacturing detail found only on the earliest dials. Equally significant are the elongated hour hand, the ultra-thin subsidiary register hands and the straight baton chronograph seconds hand, details that were soon revised as production evolved. Further enhancing its appeal, the watch is accompanied by its Rolex folded-link Oyster bracelet, 7205, as well as its original presentation box. Combining remarkable originality with a serial number from the dawn of Daytona production, this reference 6239 represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the earliest manifestations of Rolex's legendary chronograph, preserving a combination of features that encapsulate the model's formative chapter and are increasingly sought after by the most discerning collectors.
