The Cartier Tank Cintrée, introduced in 1921, is among the most distinctive expressions of the Maison’s iconic rectangular design. Defined by its elongated, curved profile, the model was conceived to follow the contours of the wrist, combining exceptional elegance with an ultra-thin construction. The present platinum Réédition, released in 2023 to celebrate the centenary of the original platinum examples, is particularly faithful to its historical predecessors. Limited to only 150 examples, its 950 platinum case measures 46.30 mm in length, 23 mm in width and just 6.03 mm in thickness. Importantly, the proportions of the present edition are closer to those of the original 1920s Cintrée, being noticeably narrower and thinner than the more substantial modern interpretations of the model. The gently curved case features polished brancards, brushed surfaces and a beaded crown set with Cartier’s characteristic ruby cabochon. The eggshell-coloured curved dial faithfully echoes the aesthetic of the 1920s examples, with printed black Roman numerals and minute track, complemented by blued-steel Breguet-style hands. Powering the watch is the ultra-thin manually wound calibre 9780 MC, based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 849. Measuring only 1.85 mm thick, it comprises 19 jewels, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 33 hours of power reserve.
