The present Reference 4555 is a particularly evocative example of Patek Philippe’s jewellery watchmaking of the early 1980s, a period during which the Geneva manufacture produced some of its most distinctive and imaginative creations for the wrist. Combining precious materials, bold geometric forms and sophisticated gem-setting, these watches occupy an important place within Patek Philippe’s long tradition of creating exceptional timepieces that transcend their purely horological function. This reference was produced in a variety of configurations, combining different precious metals, hardstones and gem-set designs. The present example is distinguished by its yellow gold case and an elaborate bezel set with graduated baguette-cut diamonds. At its centre is a vivid blue lapis lazuli dial, framed by a further diamond-set surround. The design is completed by an integrated articulated yellow gold bracelet, enhanced throughout by rows of brilliant-cut diamonds, highlighting the exceptional jewellery character of this creation.
