The Patek Philippe reference 1463 “Tasti Tondi” stands among the most celebrated and desirable vintage chronographs ever created by the Geneva manufacture. Introduced in 1940, it was Patek Philippe’s first water-resistant chronograph wristwatch, distinguished from the contemporary reference 130 by its screw-down case back, protective dust cover and characteristic round pump pushers, which inspired its enduring Italian nickname. Produced for approximately 25 years, with only around 720 examples made across all metals, the reference remains exceptionally rare. The present example is particularly distinguished by its 18K pink gold case, an exceptionally scarce configuration of which only approximately 140 examples are believed to have been produced. Measuring 35 mm in diameter, the case displays the elegant step on the bezel, pronounced downturned lugs and unmistakable high-sided profile created by its screw back. It was manufactured by Taubert & Fils, the renowned Geneva casemaker formerly associated with François Borgel, and bears the characteristic Geneva key No. 11 hallmark identifying its maker. Adding further distinction is the original Patek Philippe pink gold bracelet, an exceptionally desirable and rare accessory that enhances the watch’s coherent monochromatic appearance. Housing the celebrated manually wound calibre 13’’, the reference 1463 represents the foundation of Patek Philippe’s great vintage chronograph tradition, the same movement architecture later serving as the basis for the legendary perpetual-calendar chronographs. A superb expression of the “Tasti Tondi”, combining one of Patek Philippe’s rarest case metals with its original gold bracelet and historically important Taubert case.
