Launched in 1977, the five-digit generation of the Rolex Day-Date marked a significant evolution of this iconic model, with the introduction of several major technical innovations. These included the new automatic calibre 3055, featuring Rolex’s quick-set date mechanism, which allows the date to be adjusted independently, as well as the introduction of a sapphire crystal. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, reference 18048 is distinguished by its bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The watch presented here is enhanced by an exceptionally rare black onyx “pyramidal” dial.
