Founded in the early 1980s by Svend Andersen, a Danish master watchmaker trained at Patek Philippe, Andersen Genève established a unique position in independent Geneva watchmaking. The Manufacture became renowned for its technically ambitious complications and inventive display solutions, particularly its distinctive retrograde indications, which became a hallmark of the brand. The present example perfectly illustrates this approach. Cased in yellow gold, it features a perpetual calendar with a central retrograde date hand sweeping across a graduated 1-to-31 scale before instantly returning to its starting point at the end of each month. This unusual mechanism replaces the more conventional date display and highlights Andersen’s inventive approach to traditional complications. The champagne dial is decorated with delicate “Clous de Paris” guilloché and features Roman numerals, subsidiary displays for the days and months, and a moon-phase indication. An elegant and highly individual interpretation of the perpetual calendar, the present timepiece reflects Andersen Genève’s commitment to unconventional design and sophisticated mechanical solutions, created for discerning collectors seeking an alternative to more traditional interpretations of haute horlogerie.
