During the 1970's and 1980's, Rolex fulfilled a limited number of special orders from official institutions in the Middle East that wished to decorate their watches with the emblem of their own authority. Among these rare commissions were those placed by the King Khalid Military Academy, a military academy founded in 1965 in riyadh and operating under the authority of the Saudi National Guard, which was responsible for training its officers. The model presented here, the reference 16000, belongs to this exclusive production run, in addition to the tradtional Rolex signature, the dial features the emblem of the King Khalid Military Academy. A distinctive feature that gives these examples a unique status within the datejust production of that period and makes them highly sought after today by collectors specializing in dials bearing institutional signatures from the Gulf.
