Gérald Genta is universally regarded as one of the most influential and visionary watch designers of the 20th century. In 1969, he founded his eponymous Maison, where he pursued an uncompromising approach to design, combining high complications with precious and unconventional materials. Dating from the 1990s, the present 33mm yellow gold timepiece is distinguished above all by its exceptional dial, crafted from natural coral and turquoise. The coral forms the rich, organic base of the dial, while the vivid turquoise moon-phase display at 12 o’clock creates a striking chromatic contrast. The four subsidiary counters indicate the day, date, month and leap-year cycle, forming the perpetual calendar while preserving the highly decorative character of the dial. The watch is powered by a quartz perpetual calendar movement and completed by an integrated yellow gold bracelet. The unusual combination of natural coral, turquoise and yellow gold makes the present example a particularly distinctive expression of Gérald Genta’s artistic vision.
