Renowned for its engineering-driven approach to watchmaking, IWC introduced the Doppelchronograph in the early 1990s, a groundbreaking split-seconds chronograph developed with Richard Habring and based on the robust Valjoux 7750 architecture. Introduced in 1992, reference 3711 was the first execution of this concept and laid the foundations for IWC’s modern Pilot’s watch design. The present example, crafted in platinum, elevates this fundamentally utilitarian model into a far more exclusive category. Retaining the characteristic pilot-style dial with bold Arabic numerals, a domed sapphire crystal, and a balanced tri-compax layout, it is distinguished by its attractive deep blue dial, which adds remarkable visual depth and elegance. Combining a split-seconds chronograph with day and date indication, the watch showcases one of the most sophisticated complications ever fitted to a pilot’s watch. Produced in limited numbers and rarely encountered in this configuration, it represents a particularly desirable version of one of IWC’s most historically significant chronographs.
