Of particular interest is its serial number 4881, which falls between two other known chronographs numbered 4880 and 4882 which are included in Breguet's Archives, further supporting the continuity of this special series. As the present watch comes from the family of Mr Delphin Jean Gastellier, who served as a watchmaker at Breguet for over 50 years, from 1922 until 1976, and therefore was never originally sold and registered in their books, the Extract from the Archives can not be issued by Breguet. Adding further interest, the watch is accompanied by a letter attesting to its prestigious provenance. Produced around 1970, the present Breguet chronograph represents a fascinating chapter in the Maison's history, dating from the period preceding the modern revival of the brand. Combining a manually wound chronograph with a complete calendar and moon phases, it embodies the spirit of the highly complicated wristwatches that defined the golden era of Swiss watchmaking during the mid-twentieth century. Housed in a well-proportioned 36 mm stainless steel case fitted with recessed calendar correctors, the present example features an elegant silvered dial with twin apertures for the day and month, a peripheral pointer date, moon-phase display, and three subsidiary registers for the chronograph and running seconds. This timepiece therefore combines technical complexity with a compelling historical provenance, offering a rare glimpse into Breguet's production during this transitional period.
