Gérald Genta’s most fascinating creations combine avant-garde design with exceptional mechanical sophistication. The present reference G1993/8, dating to circa 1980, is a fine example of his collaboration with master watchmaker Pierre-Michel Golay, who joined Genta in 1973 and played a key role in the development of the maison’s complicated movements before later working with Franck Muller. Crafted in 18-carat white gold, the watch features a fully skeletonized perpetual calendar movement beneath a diamond-set bezel. The openworked architecture reveals the intricate mechanics, with indications for the day, date, month, leap year and moon phases arranged across the dial. The striking blue moon disc and exposed mechanical components create a highly distinctive, almost sculptural aesthetic. A rare and charismatic expression of Gérald Genta’s approach to high complications, combining technical ingenuity, gem-setting and unmistakable avant-garde design.
