Introduced in 2014, reference 5089 was conceived as an exclusive expression of Patek Philippe’s Rare Handcrafts tradition, combining the refined architecture of the Calatrava with exceptional examples of Geneva’s decorative arts. Produced until 2019, close to 100 different variations were created, generally in series of only 10 examples and, in certain cases, as unique pieces. Each watch was individually hand-decorated using techniques including cloisonné and miniature enamel, paillonné, engraving and wood marquetry. Produced exclusively in 18k white gold, the reference 5089 features a classically proportioned 38 mm Calatrava case housing the ultra-thin automatic calibre 240 and fitted with a sapphire display back. The present example is distinguished by its remarkable Grand Feu cloisonné enamel dial depicting the Matterhorn, or Monte Cervino, one of the most recognisable peaks of the Swiss Alps. Fine gold wires are carefully shaped and applied to the dial to define the landscape before being filled with coloured enamel and repeatedly fired, making each dial subtly unique. Further enhancing the desirability of the present watch is its Tiffany & Co. certificate, adding prestigious retail provenance to this exceptionally rare Rare Handcrafts creation.
