A striking example of Patek Philippe’s post-war modernism, the present reference 3485 is distinguished by its bold square case and remarkably balanced proportions. Introduced in the early 1960s, the reference belongs to a small family of highly sculptural wristwatches that demonstrate Patek Philippe’s willingness to explore geometric forms beyond the traditional round wristwatch. The stepped, architectural case is particularly compelling, with its broad polished bezel and sharply defined lines giving the watch an unmistakably contemporary character. The present example is cased in white gold and fitted with an elegant silvered dial, featuring applied baton indexes, a finely printed minute track and a subsidiary seconds register at 6 o’clock. The restrained monochromatic palette enhances the purity of the design, while the long, faceted applied indexes lend depth and definition to the dial. At its heart beats Patek Philippe’s automatic calibre 27-460, one of the maison’s most celebrated self-winding movements of the period, renowned for its technical refinement, slim construction and Gyromax balance.
