The present timepiece is a fascinating example of Geneva’s independent watchmaking and jewellery production of the 1970s. Entirely crafted in white gold, it features a rectangular case bearing the Geneva Key No. 5, a mark associated with the renowned case maker Georges Croisier, whose workshop was acquired by Jean-Pierre Ecoffey in 1971. Ecoffey subsequently retained the Key No. 5 mark and became known for producing fine gold and platinum bracelets for leading Swiss maisons. The present bracelet bears both the JPE maker’s mark and the signature “Jean-Pierre, Meyrin”, also found on the manually wound movement. “Meyrin”, a municipality in the Canton of Geneva, may possibly indicate the locality of production or finishing. Adding to its intrigue, the watch is fitted with a deep blue Patek Philippe Genève signed dial. The combination of the Patek Philippe signed dial, Geneva Key No. 5 case, and Ecoffey-signed bracelet and movement makes this a particularly unusual creation, most probably dating from the 1970s, and an evocative example of the collaboration between Geneva’s independent specialists and the great Swiss maisons.
