Launched in 1974, the Jumbo was offered in a larger yellow or white gold case measuring 28 x 35 mm. The Jumbo is also the only Tank Louis Cartier equipped with an automatic movement, the calibre 170. The difference between the Jumbo and other Tank Louis Cartier models becomes immediately apparent when the watch is turned over. While the Tank Louis Cartier is known for its flat case back, the Jumbo features a rounded, raised case back, revealing the greater height required to accommodate its automatic movement compared to the hand-wound calibres traditionally used in the collection. Cartier fitted the watch with an automatic ETA movement, subsequently renamed calibre 170, which was also used in the automatic version of the Cartier Ceinture. Although the raised case back may appear unusual at first glance, it sits comfortably on the wrist without compromising the elegant proportions of the watch. With its larger dimensions, the Jumbo offers an appealing alternative for those who find the classic Tank Louis Cartier somewhat small, while retaining the unmistakable vintage character of this iconic design.
