Introduced in 2006 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, the reference 5711 marked a new chapter in the history of one of Patek Philippe’s most iconic creations. Conceived as the direct successor to the legendary reference 3700, the 5711 retained the distinctive design language introduced by Gérald Genta, while introducing a number of important aesthetic and technical refinements. The case became slightly more substantial and better proportioned, while the dial retained the characteristic horizontally embossed pattern, framed by the broad octagonal bezel and the signature “ears” at 3 and 9 o’clock. The reference was also equipped with a central seconds hand, unlike the original 3700, and featured a more conventional case construction with a sapphire crystal display back on certain versions, allowing the movement to be admired. The present example is particularly noteworthy as it was originally retailed by Tiffany & Co., reflecting the historic relationship between the two Maisons. Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co. established their partnership in the 19th century, with Tiffany becoming Patek Philippe’s first authorised retailer in the United States. This long-standing collaboration has resulted in a limited number of watches bearing the signatures of both Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co. on the dial, as the present example. Particularly remarkable, the watch remains sealed and in NOS (New Old Stock) condition, having never been opened or worn and preserved in its original packaging.
