Launched in 1988, together with the other so-called “Zenith” references, the reference 16523 represents a turning point in the history of the Daytona, being the first automatic generation of the model. Equipped with the calibre 4030, an automatic movement based on the Zenith El Primero and heavily modified by Rolex, it represented a significant technical step forward compared to the previous manual-winding Daytonas.
For the first time in many years, the choice between two different bezel designs was abandoned in favour of a single tachymeter bezel design inspired by the previous reference 6265. The current watch features the bezel divided into 200 units per hour, a layout common to early production models and highly sought after by collectors.
Delivered in its typical steel and yellow gold configuration, the watch combines sportiness with a more luxurious feel on the wrist. The dial features the sought-after four-line layout, an element much appreciated for its balanced and unique design.
The watch comes with a Rolex service, box, and original tag, further increasing its completeness and appeal among collectors.
