Among Rolex's most significant early creations, the Prince established the manufacture as a leader in precision timekeeping, its highly legible display and oversized movement earning it the nickname "the watch for doctors." Yet beyond its technical pedigree, the Prince remains one of the purest expressions of Art Deco design ever to emerge from Geneva, its elongated rectangular form and balanced proportions capturing the architectural elegance of the late 1920s. The present example is an exceptionally attractive and seldom-encountered silver-cased Prince, distinguished by its beautifully preserved black two-tone dial with luminous Arabic numerals, contrasting subsidiary seconds and crisp chemin-de-fer minute track. The warm patina of the silver case, with its elegant curved flanks and elongated profile, lends the watch remarkable character while remaining entirely in keeping with its age. Combining aesthetic purity, historical importance and undeniable wrist presence, this Prince stands as a compelling reminder that some of Rolex's greatest achievements were born long before the Oyster became a legend.
