The Cartier Tank Cintrée “Milano Edition”, reference WGTA0284, represents a particularly refined contemporary interpretation of one of Cartier’s most distinctive shaped watches. Presented in 2024 exclusively for the Maison’s boutique at 16 Via Montenapoleone, Milan, the model celebrates the 50th anniversary of Cartier’s presence at this historic address. The Tank Cintrée, first introduced in 1921, is distinguished by its elongated, dramatically curved case, designed to follow the natural contour of the wrist. Here, the architecture is rendered entirely in 950 platinum, measuring 46.3 by 23 mm, with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces that accentuate the sculptural form. A ruby cabochon crowns the winding crown, providing a discreet yet characteristic touch of colour. The silvered opaline dial is particularly evocative. Its traditional Cartier railway minute track and Arabic numerals are complemented by the numbers 1 and 6 in burgundy, a subtle double reference to the red cross of Milan’s coat of arms and, more directly, to the boutique’s celebrated address, Via Montenapoleone 16. The burgundy alligator strap continues this chromatic dialogue. Powering the watch is Cartier’s shaped calibre 1917 MC, a manually wound Manufacture movement measuring just 2.9 mm thick and offering approximately 38 hours of power reserve. The case back bears the inscription “Milano Edition”, completing a discreet tribute to Milan and to one of Cartier’s most enduring design icons.
