Introduced in 1939, the Rolex reference 3525 is widely regarded as one of the manufacture's most historically significant vintage chronographs. Nicknamed the "Barilotto" by collectors for its distinctive rounded Oyster case, the reference was among the earliest waterproof chronographs produced by Rolex and played an important role in establishing the brand's reputation for robust, purpose-built tool watches. Manufactured throughout the 1940s, early examples are particularly sought after, featuring numerous details that would evolve over the course of production. The present example is distinguished by its early serial number, placing it among the first reference 3525 watches produced. Housed in a well-proportioned yellow gold Oyster case, it features an attractive champagne dial that has developed a warm, even patina over the decades, complemented by a tachymeter scale, two-register chronograph layout, and elegant blued-steel hands.
