Among Patek Philippe’s most compelling mid-century dress watches, reference 3454 is distinguished by its unusual proportions, refined design and remarkably short production period. Produced for only a few years, from approximately 1961 to 1963, the reference was conceived at a time when 35 mm represented a generous diameter for a classic wristwatch, giving it an especially contemporary presence on the wrist. The present example is preserved in 18K yellow gold and features a beautifully understated silvered dial with baton indexes and subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock. Its elegant fluted bezel and balanced case proportions are characteristic of the refined aesthetic of Patek Philippe during the early 1960s. The case was made by the renowned Geneva casemaker Antoine Gerlach, identified by his distinctive Poinçon de Maître, key number 4. Powering the watch is Patek Philippe’s celebrated automatic calibre 27-460, one of the Maison’s most important self-winding movements of the period, combining technical sophistication with exceptional thinness. Remarkably rare on the market, only a handful of examples of reference 3454 have appeared publicly in recent years. The watch is accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, original presentation box and hang tag, further enhancing its appeal to the discerning collector.
