Introduced in 1960, the Patek Philippe reference 3429 succeeded the reference 3415 and was among the first models to be fitted with the newly developed caliber 27-460, replacing the earlier 12-600 AT. Its elegant 35 mm waterproof two-piece case with screw-down caseback was manufactured by Wenger and houses one of the finest automatic movements of its generation. While the reference was produced predominantly in yellow gold, approximately 200 examples were cased in white gold, around 100 in pink gold, and only an estimated 50 examples in platinum, making the present watch one of the rarest executions of the reference. The dial, manufactured by Stern Frères, features engraved hard-enamel graphics, a signature hallmark of Patek Philippe during the period. Accompanied by its original Certificate of Origin and Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, the present watch is an outstanding example of one of the manufacture's rarest automatic Calatravas of the 1960s.
