A remarkable expression of Rolex’s jewellery watchmaking, the present Oysterquartz Day-Date reference 19148 combines the technical innovation of the Oysterquartz with an exceptionally elaborate use of precious materials. Crafted in 18K yellow gold, the watch is enhanced by a diamond-set bezel and an integrated bracelet featuring numerous rows of brilliant-cut diamonds, creating a striking contrast with the brushed gold surfaces. The dial is particularly noteworthy, combining two different types of wood to create a rich and naturally variegated composition. Its central portion is framed by a circular diamond-set track of brilliant-cut stones, while two baguette-cut diamonds positioned at 6 and 9 o’clock provide an additional architectural element. The characteristic day aperture at 12 o’clock and date indication beneath the cyclops lens further distinguish the dial, maintaining the unmistakable identity of the Day-Date. At its heart is the Rolex calibre 5055, a fully in-house quartz movement developed and manufactured by Rolex, representing the Manufacture’s pioneering approach to electronic timekeeping during the 1970s and 1980s. Combining an unusual natural-material dial with extensive diamond setting, precious-metal construction and Rolex’s technically advanced Oysterquartz movement, the present reference 19148 is a particularly opulent and highly distinctive interpretation of one of Rolex’s most important modern classics.
