In 1935, Eberhard introduced a chronograph movement whose start and stop functions could be operated independently, without requiring the movement to be reset after each use. During the Second World War, the firm became an official supplier to the Italian Army, a relationship that contributed to the enduring appreciation of Eberhard among Italian collectors. Chronographs from this period were later nicknamed “Pre Extra-fort”, in reference to the Extra-fort model that followed in the postwar period. The present example is a fine illustration of this production. Its substantial 40 mm stainless-steel case features a stepped bezel and distinctive concave lugs, making it remarkably large for its period. It houses a manually wound chronograph movement operated by two pushers. The black lacquered dial features three subsidiary counters: an hour totalizer at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter and running seconds, the latter surrounded by a tachymeter scale. The gilt lettering and numerals provide an elegant contrast against the dark dial.
