Created in the early 1990’s, the Luna d’Oro was the result of a collaboration between Chopard and the independent watchmaker Svend Andersen, as renowned figure in the world of high complication watchmaking. This partnership gave the rise to a retrograde perpetual calendar with a moon phase, conceived as an exceptional timepiece within Chopard’s production at the time, while the brand led by the Scheufele family was simultaneously developing its in house expertise, an effort that could culminate in 1996 with the creation of the L.U.C manufacture. The 2249 model features a tonneau shaped case with a case back secured by screws, available in 18k yellow, rose or white gold, The automatic movement, Caliber 888, based on a Frédérique Piguet 33 jewels, powers a complex display, counters for the month and leap year, day of the week, and 24 hour time, a retrograde date indicator, and a moon phase window all set against a silver toned satin finished dial with painted roman numerals. A highly sophisticated Chopard timepiece that is at once elegant, unusual, and particularly attractive to enthusiasts of perpetual calendars with a distinctive aesthetic.
