Produced in only a small number of examples from circa 1948, the reference 2427 stands among Patek Philippe’s most distinctive mid-century rectangular wristwatches. The present example is distinguished by its elegant yellow gold rectangular case, manufactured by George Croisier (key number 5), one of the most celebrated Geneva casemakers of the period. Croisier’s name is particularly associated with Patek Philippe’s exceptional steel reference 1518, having produced three of the four known steel cases. In 1971, Croisier’s company was acquired by Jean-Pierre Ecoffey, further linking the case maker to one of the most important chapters in Geneva’s specialist watchmaking history. The watch is powered by the manual-winding shaped calibre 9’’ (9-90), Patek Philippe’s most widely employed ébauche for square and rectangular wristwatches throughout the 1940s and 1950s. Its harmonious proportions and restrained architecture embody the refined modernism characteristic of Patek Philippe’s post-war creations. Accompanied by its original period Certificate of Origin, the present reference 2427 offers a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well-documented example of one of Patek Philippe’s lesser-known yet highly evocative vintage references.
